Weekly Update 07/10/2022

Welcome to this weeks update. I cannot believe that we are already in October and that we only have two weeks left of this half term.

It was wonderful to present our Celebration Assembly on Friday and fantastic to see so many pupils earning their place on the wall. Well done to all those who earned Star of the Week and for being invited for hot chocolate with Mr Chiswell.

It has been wonderful to hear how well Banksy are working on their offsite curriculum. Well done to Mr Blaylock and his team for the progress they have made.

Well done to those pupils who have earned a place in the Top 10 list. There are 10 days left to earn points to secure their places on the first Top 10 trip of the term!

Unfortunately we have had some serious issues around the use of mobile phones this week, in particular group messages. Mobile phones are a distraction to pupils in school. During school hours, they should be focussing on learning and their relationships with the people around them. They are a distraction to the phone user and to others around them. There is no need for a pupil to use a mobile phone for communication purposes during the school day.

Predominantly however, schools ban the use of mobile phones for safeguarding reasons. Unfortunately, mobile phones are often used inappropriately. Pupils use them to photograph or video, often without the permission of the subject. They are also often the tool used by cyber-bullies and those who target others over social media. We feel that children should feel safe from this during school time.

If we suspect cyberbullying or if there is illegal content on a pupils phone we will seize the phone and will contact our partners with the police.
